C&A is closing its store in Middelburg, Netherlands, after 48 years

C&A is closing a store in Middelburg, the Netherlands. The clothing supplier confirmed this to FashionUnited. The public broadcaster Omroep Zeeland had previously reported about it. The store will close its doors on July 29 after almost 48 years.

A: C&A spokesman told FashionUnited that the closure will have “no forced consequences” for store employees. The employees will probably be transferred to other branches in the area.

Several unspecified sources told Omroep Zeeland that another shop was willing to pay a higher rent for the property. The owner of the property, FRIS Investment Care, has not yet responded to a request from the broadcaster. It therefore remains unclear for the time being which business is involved.

C&A itself tells FashionUnited that the decision “was made based on performance and market trends” in order to “remain relevant” to customers. The planned closure has nothing to do with the closure of the branch in Terneuzen, which closed its doors last year after 30 years due to low sales. C&A also informed Omroep Zeeland that so far there are no plans to open another store in Middelburg.
