BVB wrestles Leverkusen down – player has to go into the Bayer goal

The Black-Yellows beat the Werkself in a tough long-distance duel. The guests have to take the next defeat.

First big hurdle cleared: Borussia Dortmund won the top game against Bayer Leverkusen at the start of the season. BVB beat the Werkself 1-0 (1-0) on Saturday evening. Marco Reus (9th) scored the winning goal for the hosts in the early stages. In added time, Bayer goalkeeper Lukas Radecky saw the red card for a handball outside the penalty area, defender Edmond Tapsoba had to go in goal because the guests had already made five substitutions.

In the further course of the game, Leverkusen were unlucky that two goals were annulled due to narrow offside positions. After losing the first round of the DFB Cup in Elversberg (3:4), coach Gerardo Seoane’s team suffered their next defeat.

BVB started nervously

At BVB, 17-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko was allowed to replace Sébastien Haller, who was suffering from a tumor, as in the cup. In the national team players Nico Schlotterbeck and Karim Adeyemi, there were two newcomers in the starting XI, in addition to Haller, Niklas Süle and Salih Özcan were also not available. Bayer started without a signing as the only new player of the summer, Adam Hlozek, was one of five players benched by coach Gerardo Seoane after the 4-3 Cup disgrace at third division SV Elversberg. The 20-year-old, in whom Dortmund had also shown interest, came at the break.
