Borussia Dortmund won its first home game in 2026. Serhou Guirassy was finally able to celebrate again against Werder Bremen.

With an ultimately confident 3-0 win (1-0) over Werder Bremen, Borussia Dortmund clinched their first win of the new year. Striker Serhou Guirassy ended his goal drought. The 29-year-old had not scored in the Bundesliga since October. After coming on as a substitute, he made it 3-0 against Bremen shortly before the end (83rd minute).

National player Nico Schlotterbeck had previously given BVB the lead (11th). After a mixed first half, the home team still received whistles from the stands at half-time. In the second section, Dortmund improved significantly. Marcel Sabitzer scored BVB’s second goal (76th) before Guirassy made the decision.

BVB coach Niko Kovač put Guirassy, who had been weak for weeks, on the bench for the first time this Bundesliga season and gave Fábio Silva his trust. This one harmonized well with Carney Chukwuemeka. The two stood out for BVB in terms of playfulness and willingness to run, but they were unable to carry their team along. Overall, the Dortmund game lacked elements of surprise and pace.

The fact that the hosts still led was thanks to Schlotterbeck’s header ability after a corner. Otherwise, Werder easily managed to keep the uninspired Champions League participants away from their own goal. Bremen had two excellent opportunities through Justin Njinmah, but the striker initially overlooked the completely free Jens Stage (4th) and later finished too weakly (18th).

Otherwise, the balls sailed out in rows on both sides. The professionals on the pitch made many sticking errors and technical mishaps, so that some BVB fans even whistled farewell to their team at the break.

Even in the second half, Dortmund were unable to press for a long time. Instead, BVB countered in their own stadium through Silva, who, like Beier (55th), had no luck in the finish.
