BVB wants to increase offer for Akanji: Same salary as Süle & Hummels?

Kehl works to persuade

Last week, the “Ruhr Nachrichten” reported that Borussia Dortmund would not improve its previous contract offer for central defender Manuel Akanji in the amount of 8 million euros a year. The current working paper of the 26-year-old expires in the summer of 2023, and a farewell if there is no extension at the end of the season is considered likely. A recent report by “Image” according to the black and yellow, however, consider increasing the offer.

According to this, the second in the Bundesliga table is planning talks with Akanji in the coming days and is ready to move away from the previous financial pain threshold. Appropriately, Sebastian Kehl, Head of the Licensed Players Department, announced: “Manuel is a very important player for us. He has shown strong performances and of course we are still trying to convince him to stay with us.”

Top earners at BVB: Akanji soon on a par with Süle & Hummels?

So far, Akanji had demanded a sum of 10 million euros per year, it said. The Swiss would then join the ranks of BVB’s top earners, on a par with new signing Niklas Süle (26) and Mats Hummels (33; each 10 million euros a year) and just behind Marco Reus (32; 12 million euros). . The report does not reveal whether Dortmund is willing to meet these demands in the talks, or whether players and club would have to agree on a middle ground.

Akanji could earn far more with a change anyway. An offer from Manchester United with an annual salary of 15 million euros was written almost three weeks ago, and FC Bayern is also monitoring the situation of the defender.
