Gürpüz, who was born in Duisburg, last played for BVB in the U17 Bundesliga West, this summer he was promoted to the U19 Black and Yellow. Between 2014 and 2016, the right-footed player played for rivals FC Schalke 04 before moving to the Dortmund youth department. Gürpüz is also active for the Turkish junior national teams, having previously made nine appearances for the DFB in the U16s. With a transfer to the Süper Lig he would do the same as his 20-year-old brother Göktan. This recently went from BVB II to Trabzonspor, where he signed until 2026.

“He’s a great talent. For me more talented than his big brother,” says TM user “spegel” about the upcoming transfer from Gürpüz, but also expresses clear concerns: “He should stay with Dortmund because he won’t get game practice in the first team anyway and the youth team from Gala and the youth league are no better than those of BVB and the German youth league. The chance of making a career there is significantly lower.”

“spegel” explains: “Local Turkish talents hope that they will get offers from Europe, switch to Poland or Moldova or the Belgian second division as talents instead of rotting away at a top Turkish club in their youth. And as a 17-year-old he switched from one of the best training clubs in the world – Dortmund. You can only shake your head.” User “HarryKewell19” can understand this view: “The past has confirmed that in so many cases.” As a Galatasaray fan, he was “very pleased” about the upcoming change from Gürpüz.

Compared to the “Ruhr News” youth coordinator Lars Ricken recently said: “We have released Gökdeniz for contract talks. In terms of sport, his departure is a shame for us, but it was the Gürpüz family’s wish to go to Turkey together. Since there were fair negotiations with Galatasaray and all parties have agreed in principle, we are happy to comply with this request.”
