BVB: Nmecha will no longer play in 2023 due to a hip injury

Persistent hip problem

30 million signing Felix Nmecha will no longer play for Borussia Dortmund this year. BVB coach Edin Terzic confirmed the 23-year-old’s failure on Thursday during the press conference before the Bundesliga game against Mönchengladbach (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.). “We assume that we will be able to rebuild it at the beginning of January and integrate it into training,” announced the 41-year-old.

Nmecha moved from VfL Wolfsburg to Westphalia in the summer, but has so far fallen short of expectations in the eyes of some fans and experts. The national player is still waiting for his first Bundesliga goal in the black and yellow jersey. To date, he has played a total of ten league games and 263 minutes of action (1 goal) in the Champions League.

“Felix had to cancel his international trip due to a hip injury. Unfortunately, this has not improved in the last few days. We have now decided to give him a break and regeneration. Accordingly, he will unfortunately no longer be used this calendar year,” explained Terzic, who continued when asked: “No surgery is necessary. It’s just an unfortunate spot in the hip area. That’s why he needs complete rest and of course continues to receive the therapies that are possible.”
