Coach demands reaction
BVB coach Marco Rose demanded a reaction from his team after the bitter 4-2 home defeat in the Europa League against Glasgow Rangers. “Tomorrow we will send a team onto the field that I assume will perform differently. We know that we have a home game and we absolutely want to win it,” said Rose before the explosive duel against his former club Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday (5:30 p.m. / DAZN). Dortmund lost the first leg 0-1.

Top scorer Erling Haaland (21), who only took part in part of the training, is still not there. In addition, Manuel Akanji (26) will be out for around three weeks due to a torn muscle fiber in his calf. “We have to look at Marius Wolf in the final training session, he could become an option,” said Rose. Thomas Meunier (30), on the other hand, has to pass due to muscle problems.
After the bankruptcy against the Rangers, Rose had announced a more consistent approach to his professionals. “I’m stabbing into a wasp’s nest, I was uncomfortable and will remain uncomfortable,” said the 45-year-old, who denied an alleged crisis meeting after the Rangers game between him, managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke, sports director Michael Zorc and license player Sebastian Kehl. “That didn’t exist,” said Rose of the German Press Agency.
BVB coach since 2000: Only 8 games coach Röber conceded more goals than Rose
Rose admitted that the performance in the cup competitions so far has been an absolute disappointment. “We’re doing really well in the Bundesliga, but we play almost 50 percent without our top scorer. If you’re missing such an important player for half the season, it does something to a team,” said Rose, but then added that his team would have had to survive against Glasgow even without Haaland. Now others would have to step into the breach.
Coach Rose currently sees a “phase of strife” at BVB
“We talk a lot about mentality and attitude. It is currently a phase in which we are particularly queried there. When the phase of strife is over, then we will certainly have made a step forward,” said Rose.
