BVB irritated? Again fuss about Felix Nmecha

The interest in Felix Nmecha from VfL Wolfsburg continues to cause unrest around Borussia Dortmund. The latest stumbling block at BVB: a report from the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”.

In this, the daily newspaper also quoted managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke – according to “Bild”, however without having the quotations authorized by him beforehand, as is actually common in (sports) journalism.

This procedure should cause irritation at BVB, according to the report from the tabloid.

Watzke had defended interest in Nmecha in the newspaper article. “This is a normal boy, a normal young footballer,” said the 64-year-old, according to “SZ”. Nmecha is “not a guy who causes trouble within the group with his attitudes or his behavior”.

Nmecha poker has been causing discord for weeks, especially in the BVB fan scene. The queer fan club “Rainbow Borussia” first protested in an open letter and then in an article for the fanzine “Schwatzgelb” against a possible transfer of the 22-year-old international.

“When we protest against the transfer of Felix Nmecha, we are not concerned with Nmecha as a person, nor with the Christian faith, but with the fundamental and intolerant interpretation of this faith that Felix Nmecha practices,” it said, among other things.

BVB: Felix Nmecha a “trouble with announcement”?

Nmecha has shown so far “that his anti-queer statements were followed by apologies, in order to then express himself anti-queer again. We as a fan club therefore remain skeptical – also because BVB wants to get a trouble spot here with an announcement.”

According to media reports, Nmecha had recently dispelled concerns about questionable attitudes towards homosexuals and trans people in a conversation with Watzke and President Reinhold Lunow.

It was possible to make Nmecha clear that, despite his faith in the team and the club, he could not be “missionary”, Watzke told the “SZ”.
