BVB “in advanced discussions” with Chelsea professional

Borussia Dortmund is looking for a new full-back in the now open transfer market. There are increasing signs that Ian Maatsen from Chelsea FC is the object of desire for BVB.

According to “Bild”, Borussia Dortmund is “in advanced discussions” with Maatsen. The tabloid reported just a few days ago that the 21-year-old was one of the black and yellow’s “top options”.

The Dutchman is at home on the left side of defense. Ramy Bensebaini is currently in this position for the German runner-up. BVB officials obviously want to heat up the competition – especially since Bensebaini is taking part in the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria at the beginning of the year.

Maatsen’s market value is estimated at around 20 million euros. According to “Bild”, a loan deal is currently out of the question because Chelsea has already exhausted its quota of loan players set out in the Premier League rules.

BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl and Co. are currently busy finding “creative ways” to sign Maatsen despite these adversities. Borussia Dortmund are said to have had the full-back on their radar for some time.

More playing time at BVB?

Maatsen moved from PSV Eindhoven to Chelsea FC’s youth department in 2018. He has so far been denied his big breakthrough in London.

Although Maatsen has already played 15 competitive games for the Blues this season, he mostly only made short appearances. The young Dutchman could have a bigger role at BVB.

Maatsen himself is said to be not averse to a move to Westphalia, Bild recently reported. It is now up to BVB to reach an agreement with the player and with Chelsea FC.
