BVB flop Ciro Immobile makes history with a goal record

At Borussia Dortmund he once failed with a bang, at Lazio Rom Ciro Immobile has finally entered the history books: On Monday the ex-BVB professional managed a brilliant goal record.

When Ciro Immobile switched from FC Turin to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2014, he had great expectations.

BVB transferred a whopping 18.5 million euros to Italy for him. In the black and yellow, Immobile should follow in the footsteps of Robert Lewandowski, who had migrated to Bayern Munich.

But everything turned out very differently: Immobile never felt comfortable in Dortmund privately and sportingly. He only played 34 games in BVB dress, scoring a meager ten goals.

Departure from BVB, short guest appearance in Spain

In 2015 Borussia passed him on to Sevilla FC on loan, and in early 2016 he was signed and loaned back to Turin. The following summer, the Spaniards sold real estate to Lazio Rome at a loss of millions.

There the attacker finally found happiness, the liaison with the two-time Italian champion became an absolute success story. 23, 29, 15, 36, 20 – Immobile’s hit-tally for the Romans in Serie A reads staggering.

The 32-year-old has already scored 21 goals again this season.

Goal record for Ciro Immobile

His last, the winning goal from the penalty spot to make it 1-0 against FC Venice, was a very special one, namely the 144th in the league for Lazio. Immobile was crowned his club’s new record goalscorer, beating the legendary Silvio Piola from first place in this statistic.

“This is a club full of history and glory. It’s made up of great champions, I took something from everyone,” Immobile commented on his record goal.

By the way, a departure from “his” club is no longer an option for the snapper, who once failed so terrifically at BVB.

“He will stay with Lazio until the end of his career,” adviser Alessandro Moggi recently announced to “Radio Marte”. Immobile’s current contract in the Eternal City runs until 2026.
