BVB does not want to “let themselves drift” with Mats Hummels’ contract

BVB sports director

After the contract extension with Marco Reus (33), sports director Sebastian Kehl has not announced any new status regarding the future of Mats Hummels (34) at Borussia Dortmund. “We are also in close contact with Mats, but we don’t have to emphasize it every day and don’t have to give water level reports every day,” said Kehl before the away game at VfL Bochum on Friday evening on “DAZN”.

They are pursuing the big goal of winning the championship, “every player submits to it,” emphasized the BVB sports director. “Nevertheless, of course we have to work on issues and we have done that in the past, step by step. We won’t let ourselves drift.” Hummels only has one contract in Dortmund until the end of the season.

Reus had extended his expiring contract by another year on Thursday, even if he is currently not a regular player. Against Bochum, the offensive player was again not part of the Dortmund starting line-up. “He is a role model for this club, for our city, for our fans and ultimately the captain of this team,” enthused Kehl. Reus has “accepted” his current role and is doing everything “so that we can be successful. That’s why we’re very happy that the contract has been extended.”
