The Dortmund coach comments about a player who was recently noticed by a controversial social media post-and explains a decision.
Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovač had one sentence listened to one of his players. Before the Champions League game against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday evening, Kovač answered questions about his list at the broadcasting station DAZN. The trainer made five changes, including striker Serhou Guirassy back into the starting eleven.
However, it also noticed: midfielder Felix Nmecha, who was in the initial formation in five of the seven competitive games in 2025/26 in five of the previous seven competitive games, was not among the first eleven professionals. And Kovač surprised directly with a statement about the 24-year-old: “Felix played a lot, he will certainly be invited to the national team. That is my feeling,” said the Croatian and thus also justified the break for NMECHA: “So you have to house your strength there.”
So far, NMECHA has played four caps for the German national team, scored his only goal in 1-1 in Hungary in the Nations League. For the first two games of the World Cup qualification in early September against Slovakia (0: 2) and Northern Ireland (4: 1), he was not taken into account by national coach Julian Nagelsmann. If it goes to Niko Kovač, that changes now.
