Guirassy also scores

Borussia Dortmund didn’t play well against Werder Bremen for a long time. In the end it was still enough for a clear victory. Mainz 05 achieved their first win under Urs Fischer and gave the Red Lantern to 1. FC Heidenheim.

Successful, but still without shine: Borussia Dortmund defeated Werder Bremen and consolidated second place in the Bundesliga. Coach Niko Kovac’s team clearly defeated the Hanseatic League 3-0 (1-0) thanks to two late goals. In front of 81,365 spectators, Nico Schlotterbeck (11th minute), Marcel Sabitzer (76th) and substitute Serhou Guirassy (83rd) scored the goals for BVB.

The three goals covered up a long-term poor performance by Dortmund, who were still unbeaten in the league at home. Guirassy also ended a personal negative streak. The attacker scored for the first time in the league since the end of October. Werder has now not won six competitive games in a row. Coach Horst Steffen’s team, whose game against TSG Hoffenheim last weekend was canceled due to weather, has to be careful not to slip into the relegation battle after the unsuccessful start to the year.

Mainz frees itself and gives Red Lantern to Heidenheim

With their first Bundesliga win under Urs Fischer in the basement duel at the end of the first half of the season, 1. FSV Mainz 05 handed over the red lantern to 1. FC Heidenheim. The 2-1 (1-0) was Rheinhessen’s first home game win since February 2025 and the first three-pointer after twelve games without a win.

Silvan Widmer (30th minute) and Nadiem Amiri (48th) scored the goals for the hosts in front of 24,500 spectators in the Mewa Arena. Stefan Schimmer (60th) scored for the guests. Mainz caught up on points (12) with Heidenheim and FC St. Pauli, who have two games fewer. Thanks to the better goal difference, Mainz finished the first half of the season at least 17th in the table. Heidenheim is last. St. Pauli has to play VfL Wolfsburg on Wednesday, who Hamburg would again overtake with a win.
