Carney Chukwuemeka will remain at Borussia Dortmund until the end of the club World Cup. The black and yellow had not drawn the 30 million to 35 million euro purchase option for the 21-year-old midfielder and the loan contract officially ends on June 30th. The “Ruhr Nachrichten” initially reported on Sunday’s upcoming settlement of Dortmund with Chelsea FC until the tournament for the club ends.
“I am very confident that we can do it,” BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl had already indicated after the preliminary round of the club World Cup in relation to Chukwuemeka. “We don’t want to get worse. That’s why we would like to keep it. Chelsea knows that too.”
Update 6:36 p.m.: On Sunday, Kehl said on the edge of the public Dortmund training in front of around 200 invited fans: “At Carney there is positive news. I had the conversations with Chelsea. In the end, we have a general agreement that Carney remains with us as long as this tournament for Borussia Dortmund will go.”
The English born in Austria is still bound to the blues until 2028. Since his loan transfer to Dortmund in early February, Chukwuemeka stood 21 times in the field and scored a goal. So far, he has been used three times at the club World Cup in the USA, each as a joker. In the Bundesliga update, he recently increased his market value from 15 million to 18 million euros.

Correction: The article initially spoke of an extended loan for the 2025/26 season. The Ruhr Nachrichten report was only about the end of the club World Cup. Transfer market asks for this error to apologize.
