BVB apparently wants to halve Marco Reus’ salary

The future of Marco Reus at Borussia Dortmund is still open. If the captain wants to extend his expiring contract with BVB, he would probably have to accept a halving of his previous top salary.

After months of standstill, negotiations about a contract extension for Marco Reus at Borussia Dortmund should now pick up speed. First, “Sport1” reported that there were finally concrete talks between BVB and Reus consultant Dirk lever. Numbers were also on the table.

This obviously knows “image”. Accordingly, BVB is ready to offer Reus a new one-year contract until 2024 – but only under certain conditions.

The central demand of the district club is said to be that the 33-year-old should accept massive salary losses. According to the report, Reus should only collect around six million euros per year in the future. So far, he has received about twice as much – and thus the highest salary in BVB club history.

Instead of a lavish fixed salary, Reus’ new contract should be based on success bonuses. The club and sporting director Sebastian Kehl made it their mission to design professional contracts with BVB.

BVB: Deadline set for Marco Reus?

For Reus, that would be a risk from an economic point of view because of his high risk of injury. In the current season, the 48-time international has been absent from Borussia for weeks due to persistent ankle problems.

It is said that a decision about Reus’ future at BVB should be made by the beginning of April at the latest.

Kehl recently announced “targeted decisions” regarding Reus and Mats Hummels “in the next few weeks” on “ZDF” and confirmed that he was “in exchange” with the players and their management.

BVB need “planning security” and “clarity” with a view to the summer transfer window, according to Michael Zorc’s successor.
