Second most valuable Süper Lig professional
With a market value of 18 million euros, Victor Nelsson is not only the second most valuable player in the Süper Lig, but has also developed into the best defender in the Turkish upper house at Galatasaray. It is hardly surprising that the performance of the 24-year-old would sooner or later attract interest from the top European leagues. In Turkey, Nelsson is loosely associated with Borussia Dortmund, among others.

Nelsson is signed at Galatasaray until 2026 but has a €25m release clause and is said to be not averse to taking the next step, says Lara Karacan, Lead of Content at Transfermarkt.com.tr. As a result of the services provided by FC Copenhagen since his arrival for 7 million euros in 2021, Galatasaray is ready to grant him this, possibly even below the stipulated transfer fee.
Karacan says of Nelsson’s profile: “His strengths are definitely headers, positional play and tackles. All his defensive qualities are well developed, but he can still make steps in his offensive game. He was a big part of GS conceding the fewest goals this season – 27 in 36 games – and one of the best defenses internationally as well. Over the course of his time in Istanbul, Nelsson has become more and more the head of defence, and I would believe that he would be able to do that at BVB as well.”
If Nelsson leaves: will Galatasaray take Tottenham’s Sánchez?
However, the Turkey expert considers a transfer to the Premier League more likely, where Tottenham is willing to pay 20 million euros for Nelsson. As far as that goes, it fits in again Sabuncuoglu’s report, according to which Galatasaray is dealing with Spurs’ Davinson Sanchez. The 27-year-old has received less and less playing time from the Londoners in recent years, only 852 minutes in 2022/23 in the Premier League and thus about half of the previous year.

Sánchez’ contract expires in 2024, so he should be available for a lower price than Nelsson. Since 2019, the Colombian’s market value has gradually fallen from a high of €60m to the current €15m. The Turkish transfer expert writes also from an offer from Spartak Moscow for Sánchez, and according to PSV Eindhoven “Voetbal International“ be interested in the defender. Peter Bosz has taken over as coach there this season, under whom the 54-time national player once played at Ajax in the focus of “Spurs”.
Actually, Sanchez hasn’t played a role in the Spurs for three years, but he wasn’t undisputed before that either and they’ve wanted to get rid of him for a long time, he just didn’t want to because he earns quite well in Tottenham.
From my point of view, a completely overrated player who has the physical requirements, is two-footed and reasonably fast, but has a catastrophic positional play and timing in a duel. They’ll let him go for 10 to 15 million if he wants to…
