Geert-Jan and Carry Knoops would prefer to keep their expensive Marco Borsato invoices secret, thinks their former colleague Bram Moszkowicz. “They charge an hourly rate of about 500 to 600 euros.”

Marco Borsato has submitted a request through his lawyers Geert-Jan and Carry Knoops to have the costs of his defense reimbursed. He was acquitted in December in the sexual offense case brought against him and can therefore recover legal fees incurred. The big question is whether the court will agree with this.

Closed doors

It is normal to reclaim these costs, but Marco does have very expensive lawyers. They hope to handle it in writing, but there could also be an oral hearing. “We have taken into account that there will be discussion about this. But everyone in the Netherlands has the right to reclaim attorney’s fees in the event of an acquittal.”

If that treatment comes, Carry would rather not have any snoopers around. She continues: “If the hearing were to take place, we have requested the court to handle it behind closed doors.”

Not yet known

Carry contributes Show news indicate that they mainly requested this in Marco’s interest. “We have asked the court not to deal with this in a public hearing, so as not to let him be exposed to the news again, so we will wait and see.”

Her husband Geert-Jan then said: “It is not so much about damage, but about compensation for the costs of lawyers and experts. That is normal at a public deposition or it can be settled in writing, but that date is not yet known.”

Hourly rate

The court must find the costs incurred ‘reasonable and fair’. Fallen criminal lawyer Bram Moszkowicz says at the TV desk: “That hourly rate is equal to what I had as an hourly rate: 500 to 600 euros per hour. Madam costs a little less than sir, I don’t know why.”

He continues: “I find it interesting that they say that they want to keep it behind closed doors in the interests of Borsato, but of course it is not only in the interests of Borsato.”

Set too high?

Presenter Dyantha Brooks wonders what exactly Bram wants to say. “Also in the interests of the Knoops?”

Bram: “That could just be possible.”

Dyantha: “Because they might have set the stakes a little too high?”

Bram: “I don’t know, do I?”

Private boss Evert Santegoeds: “Well! You’re not suggesting that, are you?”

Bram: “No, I am not suggesting that they have declared too much, but what I am saying is that it is not only in Borsato’s interest that it happens behind closed doors.”

‘I don’t understand’

Sandra Schuurhof wonders what exactly Bram is suggesting. “Because? I don’t really get it.”

Evert: “Well, I think they don’t want to have their accounts looked at.”

Bram: “Exactly.”

Dyantha: “Publicly.”

Bram: “Yes, publicly.”

Pointless, Sandra thinks. She concludes: “Yes, but they also know that the moment they win that case and he wants to get those attorney fees back, it will be revealed anyway.”
