Despite all the criticism, Chateau Bijstand is a great success on SBS 6. The first episode attracted more than a million viewers yesterday and took silver at half past eight.
In the run-up to the premiere of Chateau Bijstand, an incredible amount of criticism has been expressed about the program, because poverty entertainment in 2022 would be seriously inappropriate. At one point, RTL Boulevard even more or less called on the channel management of SBS 6 to withdraw the reality show. At Shownieuws there was a fight.
Chateau Assistance is hit
SBS 6 continued and the first episode of Chateau Bijstand was a great success yesterday: no less than 1.1 million people (19% market share) watched it. Only the NPO 1 hit Radar by Antoinette Hertsenberg, who once awarded Martien Meiland a Loden Leeuw, scored better with 1.3 million viewers (23%).
Yet there was also a lot of criticism during the broadcast of Chateau Bijstand, according to the SBS 6 colleagues from Shownieuws. Viewers of Chateau Bijstand express strong criticism: ‘Disgusting’ headlines the show section† Shownieuws cites a number of reactions, including: “What a disgusting program with self-righteous people!”
Tina Nijkamp responds
According to Shownieuws, there are also many people who are annoyed that the Meilandjes speak so contemptuously about an ordinary terraced house. “It’s a bit strange to be so weird about an average house. As if they were born very rich themselves,” someone says, for example.
And what does former SBS 6 boss Tina Nijkamp think? “There was a lot of criticism. Viewership will be high. But also (and above all) the choice for this voice-over proves: this is old-fashioned TV and looks like a repeat. So 2006 this voice-over voice,” she writes on Instagram.
Martijn on three
Thanks to the success of Chateau Bijstand, RTL 4 was not number two, but number three at prime time. The Martijn Krabbé program Deferral of Execution was good for 815 thousand viewers (15%).
The most viewed titles at half past nine were Spoorloos with 1.2 million viewers (23%) on NPO 1 and Today Inside with 832 thousand viewers (17%) on SBS 6.
Furthermore, NPO 3 also did well with a decent 675 thousand viewers (12%) for Hunted Into The Wild.
Viewing figures
Programs that did not reach the top fifteen ratings include Jinek (631 thousand), M (621 thousand), Hart van Nederland (589 thousand), Shownieuws (435 thousand), HLF8 (387 thousand) and Big Brother (221 thousand).
