In the last time, I have been accompanying many women who face an increasingly frequent reality, although still little visible: burnout or labor exhaustion. This phenomenon, which describes a state of emotional, physical and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged stress, affects many professionals who deal every day with multiple roles in their work and in their homes.

Studies such as McKinsey & Company indicate that 24% of women leave their job in the first year after having their child, and many do not return to their work or at five or ten years. But burnout is not limited to motherhood or family responsibilities. In my experience, many women are trapped in a spiral of exhaustion that impacts their emotional and physical health, generating a vicious circle that leads them to rethink their working life.

This exhaustion usually manifests in chronic fatigue, anxiety, difficulties in concentrating and loss of motivation. They come to feel that they cannot move on, which leads them to request medical licenses, reduce their workload or even abandon their careers.

Entrepreneurship appears in many of these stories as an alternative. However, this change should not be just a consequence of the lack of labor policies that support them, but a conscious and purpose decision. Each woman should be able to choose with full freedom what she wants for her professional life without feeling “expelled” by the lack of accompaniment.

I consider it key that companies become aware that Burnout is not only an individual problem, but a symptom of an unsustainable environment. It is necessary to promote more human spaces, with flexibility policies, emotional support and a culture that value well -being. Only then can we move towards a more human, equitable and sustainable work world, in which each woman feels valued, listened and backed at each stage of her professional life.
