Burning rubber, Bobbies and music: Assen is ready for the TT Festival

Assen is a motor city again. The campsites are open, motorcycles are driving through the streets and tonight is also the first TT Night. This coming weekend, the city center of Assen will once again attract thousands of visitors.

The team of producer Jeroen Hemmes has to build three music stages in a short time. “It’s one of the most fun jobs of the year,” he says. “We have a core team of ten producers, in addition about thirty crew, people you see walking with cables and fences. And then ninety catering employees tonight.”

And it will be fine, he sees. “People know what to do. So if all goes well I have a quiet weekend and I can enjoy the atmosphere that is there.”

Festival director Jan Gerbrand Krol has changed little about the festival. There is more motorcycle entertainment this year, such as stunts and moped races. “People come for the spectacle anyway. And I thought it was very important to bring the smell of burning rubber back into the city. People just have to enjoy themselves. In two years in 2025 there will be a special jubilee edition and I’ll be watching that already looking forward to it.
