The church community of the Reformed municipality of Sprang-Capelle was defeated after a burglary in the church. At the beginning of this week, about eight hundred euros was taken by one or more burglars. According to Broeder van der Schans, that has a considerable impact on the community. “How can anyone have such a good conscience to steal from God’s house,” he wonders.
The burglars struck between Sunday half past nine in the evening and Monday half past four in the afternoon. “Someone from the church community saw on Monday afternoon that the back doors were open,” says Broeder van der Schans.
“Amount of around eight hundred euros stolen.”
The doors of the cabinet of the women’s association were also open. About eight hundred euros was stolen from that. “The church is not financially for this burglary,” says the brother. “But it is terrible that someone has such a good conscience to steal from God’s house. We are defeated and sad.”
The brother hopes that the burglar or burglars also realize that. “We don’t cherish a resort, but hope that someone reports themselves, repent and returns the amount.”
“We think the night has hidden the dark.”
The money could be used well for charities. “It is money that we pick up with collections and that could be served on charities. Only the thought that someone is stolen from God’s house, we cannot understand,” says Broeder van der Schans.
Immediately after the discovery, the church board called in the police. “Agents have come back a number of times to investigate the burglary. We think the night hid the dark. I spoke to a neighbor, but he had seen or heard nothing,” says the brother.
The police have conducted a neighborhood investigation and hopes that witnesses report.
