The police have arrested two burglars on the R8 between Bissegem and Gullegem. This happened after the duo, together with a third person, fled during a burglary attempt in Wevelgem. They couldn’t get their car started anymore. The two will have to answer to court via summary justice.

“Our colleagues were quickly on the scene, which startled the perpetrators,” says Mégane Coussaert, communications manager for the Grensleie police zone. “The perpetrators tried to escape with their vehicle, which, however, would not start. The criminals then fled on foot.”

Tarres Team

The intervention teams from the Grensleie police zone and Vlas police zone set up a manhunt and received help from the specialized Tarres Team from the Vlas police zone and a dog handler from the federal police. “A little later we received a report from an attentive passer-by that three people were out on foot on the R8 highway between Bissegem and Gullegem. The description given by the passer-by matched that of the suspects.”

Vehicle seized

The police were then able to arrest two of the three suspects. The public prosecutor’s office interrogated the two and proceeded with summary justice, meaning that the two miscreants will soon have to appear in court. The identity of the third suspect is currently unknown. The vehicle used by the perpetrators was seized and will be thoroughly examined for possible clues that could assist the investigation.
