Bundesliga: Thomas Müller on Bayern bankruptcy: “Slap in the face”

FC Bayern completely surprisingly lost 0-1 against Werder Bremen. Thomas Müller also criticized the body language on the pitch after the game.

FC Bayern Munich suffered a surprising 0-1 defeat against Werder Bremen on Sunday. Of all people, ex-Munich player Mitchell Weiser scored the goal of the day in the 59th minute – and ensured that the record champions’ gap to league leaders Bayer Leverkusen continued to grow.

“I really enjoyed celebrating with the fans. It was a great game for us. It’s my first win in Munich – that feels very good,” said the Bremen goalscorer after the unexpected victory in the Allianz Arena at DAZN. “We worked well together with the ball. We know that we can be unpleasant. Today we were disgusting,” continued Weiser.

Müller self-critically: “We were far too sluggish”

Joy on the one hand, frustration on the other. Due to the bankruptcy, FC Bayern’s gap to Bayer Leverkusen is now seven points – even if the Munich team can gain another three points in the catch-up game against Union Berlin on Wednesday.

“I think we deserved a goal in the last quarter of an hour, but a win wouldn’t have been deserved over the 90 minutes,” said the international, analyzing his team’s poor performance. “We were far too sluggish, with no life in it. You don’t have to shout, but it’s about how much you can see in a team that they want to score a goal,” said the striker at DAZN. “For 60 or 70 minutes there wasn’t enough fire, we were begging for a goal.”

The 34-year-old also criticized his team’s body language. “Everyone has to try to push their teammate. Not with blah blah, but with body language. Every player has to question themselves. That was of course a big slap in the face for us, but of course we helped,” was the Munich player’s final analysis.

Tuchel: “We were sloppy”

Coach Thomas Tuchel agreed with DAZN Müller. “That was clearly not enough. For over 70 minutes I didn’t have the feeling that we were playing doggedly for victory. I saw something of it in the last 20 minutes, but not until then,” was the Bayern coach’s assessment.

Tuchel continued: “We were very static, moved poorly and lost a lot of the ball. We were sloppy. It was a deserved defeat, that’s not what we wanted,” said the visibly disappointed Tuchel at DAZN.

The record champions already have the chance to do better on Wednesday. Then the Munich team will meet Union Berlin in the catch-up game.
