A week before the Bundesliga start, 14 of the 18 teams announced their captain for the 2025/26 season. The national players Tim Kleindienst and Robert Andrich have risen in the hierarchy at Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen and are now wearing the bandage. Ole Werner has also appointed a new captain at RB Leipzig.
Andrich takes over the post of Lukas Hradecky, who left the Werkelf towards Monaco. “It is a huge honor for me. (…) This is of course also an appreciation from the coach and the team of coaches,” said the 30 -year -old midfielder. In the second half of the season, Andrich found himself on the bench more often, but its meaning under Erik Ten Hag has not only increased significantly since Granit Xhaka’s departure.
In Gladbach, small service is the successor to Jonas Omlin, who lost his regular place to Moritz Nicolas last season. “The impressions of the past few weeks and discussions with the previous captains have prompted us to redesign the management structure. We wanted to set new stimuli without turning everything upside down,” explained coach Gerardo Seoane. Since small service will be missing for longer due to injury, deputy Rocco Reitz will be binding until his return.
Leipzig’s new coach Werner gave national player David Raum the bandage. Previously, central defender Willi Orbán had been in office since 2023. While eleven Bundesliga clubs have confirmed their captains in office, the official proclaims at four clubs are still pending. This includes Hamburger SV, where Sebastian Schonlau will probably hand in the bandage. Favorite for the successor is Miro Muheim. In addition, Cologne, Mainz and St. Pauli have not yet made a decision. Manuel Neuer, who has been captain of FC Bayern since 2017, is the longest in office.
