RB Leipzig succeeds in the hoped -for liberation, Borussia Dortmund remains the team of two faces. Three days after the quarter-finals in the Champions League, the BVB lost 0: 2 (0: 1) in the top game of the Bundesliga in the Saxons and continues to be in the lower midfield of the table after the overall eleventh defeat.
Leipzig helps the first success after four games without a win in fifth place. The team of the recently criticized coach Marco Rose is tied with the Frankfurt Eintracht, which was only playing in Bochum on Sunday.
Both teams offered an entertaining evening in front of 47,800 fans in the sold -out Leipzig stadium. Xavi Simons (18th) once again gone and scored the lead with his seventh goal of the season. Loïs Openda (48th) increased immediately after the break – according to Simons.
BVB with a better start against RB Leipzig
Sixth against tenth-of the pure placement before the match day, little spoke for a top duel. While Leipzig is in the semi-finals in the DFB Cup and BVB has reached the round of the last eight in the premier class, you struggle heavily on both sides in everyday league life and lags behind your demands. At least Dortmund’s coach Niko Kovac sent the same starting eleven as the 2-1 in Lille during the week.
There it quickly became apparent why Leipzig and Dortmund had never had goalless. Both pushed for an early goal, offered more than average food for football. Serhou Guirassy (9th) appeared in the Leipzig penalty area after Karim Adeyemi’s, RB keeper Péter Gulácsi grabbed his conclusion.
Then it was over with the Dortmund glory. Simons (11th) wanted to outsmart Gregor Kobel in the Dortmund goal with a direct free kick near the corner flag, but failed due to the Swiss. Three minutes later, David flanked space from the left, but Openda only hit the crossbar from five meters.
A little later it went over space again, whose shot Kobel could only ward off forward. The ball landed right in front of Simons’s feet, who easily scored the lead. With the goal, the Dutch international turned to the Leipzig fans, made the gesture of an on and walking mouth. Simons had apparently approached his performance in recent weeks.
Supervisory Councilor Oliver Mintzlaff made the fist easier in the stands, the Faust facilitated, sports director Marcel Schäfer took the hit on the outside. Leipzig also missed a double chance from Christoph Baumgartner and Ridle Baku, it got worse for BVB. After a good half an hour, Marcel Sabitzer had to be replaced by the knee. Kovac brought Rami Bensebaini and switched to a triple chain.
At first brought little, just three minutes later Baku (35th) put the ball on the crossbar from 16 meters. And Dortmund? Then came towards the end of the first half. Maximilian Beier (42nd) thought too long in the penalty area, his degree was blocked. Gulacsi steered the Schlenzer from Adeyemi (45.+2) to the corner flag in full extension.

After all, it would not be the first time this season that Leipzig gave a tour of his hand. And so you stayed on it, but Guirassy’s header (47th) flew just over the goal. On the other hand, Openda did better a minute later: Simons hit the second post for a corner, the Belgian promoted the Ball Volley into the far corner. For Openda it was only the second goal in the second half of the season.
Dortmunders think two in half -time, but despair in front of Gulácsis Tor
It remained anything but boring, especially the aluminum of the Leipzig Gate was tested. Beier hit the latte first with a head (50th), then with a massive shot (52nd) the post. Now only BVB pressed, the Leipzig defense had significant problems and there was little relief offensive.

A glossy act by Gulácsi (62nd) against Guirassy prevented the now well -deserved Dortmund goal. The Hungarian national goalkeeper was also in the best form two minutes later, steered Adeyemi’s shot against the crossbar. Rose needed more stability, took out openda and brought defense attorney Lukas Klostermann (66.). But Borussia continued to press, but also missed some chances miserably. Despite 25:15 goal shots per BVB at the end, the Dortmunders could not cheer.
