Status: 01/28/2023 8:19 p.m

Fredi Bobic is no longer sports director of the Bundesliga soccer club Hertha BSC.

After the 2-0 loss in the derby against Union Berlin on Saturday (January 28, 2023), the Executive Committee and the Supervisory Board decided to release the 51-year-old from his duties. The club announced this in the evening.

At the start of the second half of the season, Union Berlin beats city competitor Hertha BSC and remains the first pursuer of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.

Bobic moved to the capital in the summer of 2021 for a reported transfer fee of 2.5 million euros as successor to Michael Preetz from Eintracht Frankfurt. There he should help to lead the traditional club back to the upper table regions of the Bundesliga. At the end of his first season in office, Hertha BSC just survived relegation to the Bundesliga.

No improvements in sight

In the current season, after three defeats in a row at the beginning of the year, the Berliners are currently penultimate with 14 points.

Bobic’s contract ran until 2024. He was last traded as the successor to Oliver Bierhoff as sports director at the DFB.
