Bundesliga: Bo Svensson resigns as coach of Mainz 05

Bo Svensson is no longer the coach of Bundesliga soccer team FSV Mainz 05. His successor will take over “until further notice”.

Coach Bo Svensson has resigned from Bundesliga bottom team FSV Mainz 05. The Mainz company announced this on Thursday evening (November 2nd, 2023).

Svensson “decided on this step after a long conversation with sports director Christian Heidel and sports director Martin Schmidt on Thursday.” One day after the second round exit in the DFB Cup at second division Hertha BSC (0:3), the 44-year-old Svensson drew the consequences of the worst start to the season in the club’s history.

FSV Mainz 05: Svensson leaves, Siewert takes over

In the league, Mainz is still without a win after nine match days (three points). On Saturday (3:30 p.m.) against RB Leipzig and, according to the FSV announcement, U23 coach Jan Siewert will be looking after the team.
