It seems that Buddy Vedder is a victim of RTL’s diversity policy now that he has been taken from the presentation of The Voice Kids. “It was certainly a bit of a swallow when I heard it.”
RTL 4 lets The Voice of Holland and Junior variant The Voice Kids return definitively and announced the new presenters and coaches yesterday. Chantal Janzen stays with the big voice, but of course can no longer do that with the sick Martijn Krabbé. For his follow-up, not voice prominent Jamai Loman, but Edson da Graça was chosen.
Sewing of sewing
Jamai can present the less viewed kids variant and with whom? Quinty Misiedjan. Huh? That is very strange. A season was taken in 2021 that was never broadcast because of the Voice riot. Who was presented by that series? Jamai Loman and Buddy Vedder. The latter succeeded Martijn, who was then too busy with other things.
That season has been thrown away – career -technically a drama for Buddy – and now The Voice Kids is returning, Buddy is being exchanged for Quinty. What kind of sewing region of his boss Peter van der Vorst is this?
Diversity policy
It seems to have everything to do with the diversity policy of the RTL top. Peter already announced it in February de Volkskrant: “I aim for the most inclusive presentation stock, although that can be much better. I personally see to it that the casting of reality programs is not white mass.”
“We have a son with a dark skin color and I see how important it is for him to have role models. I know that about myself.”
White mass
Oops, apparently with Buddy there was a little too much a ‘white mass’. He’s out now. “Yes, I thought that was surprising, because Jamai and Buddy do Holland’s God together. They are a bit the Ant & Dec of the Netherlands, they do that a lot of fun. I think that’s a nice duo, but they have opted for Quinty,” says Tina Nijkamp at Beau.
And presenter Tooske Ragas in Shownieuws: “If you have made it, that TV world is still rock hard. One time you are the presenter of a fantastic program and the next season you will be skipped.”
Surprising
According to Rob Goossens, it is completely illogical. He says in RTL Boulevard That it was more logical to promote Jamai to the adult voice, and therefore not to choose EDSON for that. “I had taken into account that Edson would not do the regular voice, but the Kids-Voice.”
“I expected Jamai to go to the main stage, because Jamai is much more in line with the promise of the program of: if you participate, you can break through and have a whole career in it. (…) It is striking that if you could also have added Jamai to your absolute A-star panel, you would have been going to Edson.”
“You also want to spread your stars a little over the channel, but now one program after the other is standing in his direction.”
Little
Bridget Maasland thinks it’s a shame for Buddy. “I can imagine that you are a bit sour if you are not mentioned at all.”
Rob: “He reacted very optimistically in public, but one of our editors had him on the line this afternoon and then he had finished the questions. I really understand the double feeling and I would find it crazy if he hadn’t been sour.”
What does Buddy say?
What does Buddy say of it herself? He says in Shownieuws: “It was certainly a bit of a swallow when I heard that I wasn’t, only I had a good conversation with RTL and I understand their considerations. I am not allowed to complain about the program package I have with three large programs, so it’s also good.”
“You also have to give each other something in life and you can’t always get everything. I really have a bit of a bit of a time, but it is also okay and Quinty and Jamai is top, so yes, I’m going to look and I also sent them love and apps. It’s ok.”
