The planned wind turbines near the German hamlet of Kleinringer Wösten (near Schoonebeek) will move almost 100 meters. The turbines will therefore be located further from the border with the Netherlands. It is also being examined whether residents on the Dutch side can also benefit financially from the wind turbines.

The German authorities are thus responding to the objections that the municipality of Emmen had against the arrival of the park.

At the beginning of last year, the municipality submitted an objection to Samtgemeinde Emlichheim, a partnership between the German municipalities of Emlichheim, Hoogstede, Laar and Ringe. The municipality was annoyed by the plans for three wind turbines less than 400 meters from the border with the Netherlands.

With this placement, the Germans would be flouting the rules of an old border treaty. In the Meppen tract dating from 1824, construction up to 374 meters on either side of the border is not permitted. Placing the mills would therefore be against international agreements.

The German side subsequently responded favorably. A new draft plan for the wind farm was presented in December. The distance to the border is respected. In fact, the mills move an extra 90 meters. This way the park has less impact on the Dutch side.

The German municipalities also promised to improve communication, especially towards the villages of Schoonebeek and Nieuw-Schoonebeek.
