Erencan Yardımcı from Eintracht Braunschweig has been suspended for the next three second division games after his stranglehold in the Lower Saxony derby against Hannover 96. This was decided by the DFB sports court, and the Braunschweig team has already agreed to the verdict.

The 23-year-old striker grabbed his opponent Boris Tomiak’s neck with both hands on Sunday and was shown a red card in the 20th minute when the score was 0-0. Being outnumbered, the Braunschweig team ultimately lost 0:3 (0:2) against their arch rivals. Shortly after the game, Eintracht coach Heiner Backhaus announced a fine for the loan player from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

A day after the game, Yardimci publicly apologized for his omission. “In such an important game, in a moment full of emotions on the pitch, I lost control and let my team down in such a crucial game,” he wrote on Instagram. “I am truly very sad about what happened yesterday and I realize that the consequences have affected each of us.” Striking: The attacker apologizes “to my teammates, the coaching team and especially to our fans” – but not to his opponent Tomiak.
