This behavioral punk band is the newcomers of the year, so Linus Volkmann is determined in his column.

“Soli party went up to three / that’s why I’m not there on the demo” (“No Kappas” / BSK)

Recommendations of the editorial team

Welcome to this annual power series. I am now introducing you to a band that can turn your worshiped feel just like the next WG party upside down. Trust me, put your hands in mine – and if you are skeptical, then look at the past of this section: In 2021 it started with Team Scheisse, led us to Pogendroblem in 2022, made a stop at the dramatic duo tears only a year later with the wonderful Mina Richman. Now is 2025, civilization is slowly saying goodbye, but the music has not stopped playing. On the contrary. There is still pleasantly scratched acts to discover. How do you like this one? BSK.

Artistic punk with sewing machine guitars, who appreciates his own simplicity, but also always searches for ideas, for relegation and detours- and therefore never removes redundancy in jail. Hindle -minded and -In texts tell mischievous stories from the world of left -wing youth and pop culture. Stories that have never been heard. A dream of attitude, board and self -irony.

The acronym BSK is the five friends: inside from once Neuwied is not a concrete abbreviation, but a letter combination that has made a stable band name from the varied insider gag. BSK? Oh, why not! I met Salomon, Ben and Hannah for an interview. Jannik and Justus had yellow glow.

Attention, first question. It’s about the city of Neuwied. If you have to choose one thing that comes from there: prefer toxoplasma or prefer the pinball museum?

Salomon definitely the pinball museum. That shaped me more in my youth than punk rock.

Surprising, but also a difficult choice. I heard a lot of toxoplasm myself, but also visited the pinball museum in Neuwied with great zeal. They also have guest rooms there, you can spend the night and there is a pinball with endless credits in each of the rooms.

Salomon This is the thing of small towns, they need a “unique selling point” and Neuwied tries to keep up with all the things. There is also the food hotel there, for example – a hotel where every room is a brand’s advertising event. Then you have the pasta room, the beer room or one from Haribo. This is a fetish of such cities as Neuwied. One wants to be able to say that you have a special attraction that is supposedly the greatest or only of its kind in Europe.

But you don’t all come from Neuwied. Can you tell a little bit about who from BSK?

Ben today three of us live in Cologne, two in Koblenz.

Salomon founded the band around 2016 in Neuwied. At that time there was the opportunity to rent a rehearsal room for 25 euros a month – we did that and used the room primarily for parties. During this time, the band name BSK also developed. In the end, Jannik and I remain. We have decided to record an EP with all the song ideas that have been accommodated over time. We then repeated this several times and at some point even gave ourselves really effort – it also grew the need to present the music live. Until then, many members of this band had been, but everyone united that they could not play instruments. In 2022 we searched for people who are different for a change – and so we came to Justus, Hannah and Ben. The band changed that very much because the songwriting no longer only lay with Jannik and me. With the new album, this change has now completed for me.

Ben Justus and I play with another band, at good and cheap and it was okay for us at first that we were practically a service provider for live at BSK. But the matter quickly grown up organically, we enjoyed it to invent music together and suddenly we have all friends: inside. We couldn’t guess that!

And how was it for you, Hannah?

Hannah I first joined as a replacement drummer because Justus made a semester abroad-but when he was back, I just stayed. We have tried other instruments, but now we both play drums.

But not at the same time? There are a few metal bands that stand on stage two drum sets, but that is rather rare.

Hannah Nee, we don’t do that – even if it would be cool. But we don’t even have our own drums!

Speaking of instruments and keyword “trumpets out of punk”. Where did the wind players actually go? They played a bigger role in your older recordings, seems to me?

Solomon originally thought that we were a punk rock band with a saxophone. This was because a founding member can play saxophone. The “can” belong in clear quotation marks. Later we primarily replaced this with synthetic trumpets. When that member left the band to get the house and child, we fully swelled. So when you hear wind players today, we play them over the synthesizer.

Ben but the trumpet comes back now!

Why not, only think what fine cream fish fillet has achieved with the witness.

Ben we don’t want to go there!

In your texts you will very often find such a kind ridicule for your own left -wing scene. So considerations that could come from the last Küfaplenum (Küfa = “Kitchen for everyone”). No split poetry but a critical, humorous look at autonomous relationships.
That was not a question now, but still answered it.

Salomon I always found it irritating when I visit concerts in the autonomous center that punk bands often explain to me again how stupid Nazis are. Everyone here knows that – and if you really want to do something, then it seems more interesting to me to write a song that can cause discussion in that of its own bubble instead of wanting to edit the ticks that capitalism is not such a great economic system or the police can also be a problem. However, today I have the feeling that we sometimes arrive on stages on which we play far outside of such rooms. Then it can also feel strange to play such a scene script …

But even though we have this friction area in the texts, the songs seem to be more connected within our own scene than we might think.

Salomon We have a song that means “clears the AZ”. Then I was afraid that it could fly around our ears. But rather it is the case that we get concert inquiries in which people write: “Hey, your song ‘clears the Az’ is great, with us it is the same as you describe it – do you want to play in our AZ?”

I actually think that is the best of both worlds. That music has a critical awareness, but also wants to dissolve topics with humor and does not stick to slogans and cemented slogans. While the song with Team Scheisse also shows you very old school. The text is about lateral thinkers, how did the collaboration result?

Salomon We had previously put together a lateral thinker song from a Spiegel TV documentary and there was another song from us on the subject. Then Team Scheisse posted a video in which singer Timo involved in the pedestrian zone of a lateral thinker demo. We thought, great, we sampled and made a third piece. That was a little joke for ourselves that we devoted this to a little. We were also able to say that we appeared a team shit feature.

Oh, they don’t know about it?!

Ben, yes. We had played before you. We also sent you the piece beforehand and didn’t just publish it without any questions. Unfortunately, our campaign was not that punk …

Here where I live is a hot spot for the lateral thinker movement. During Corona, several demos run under our window and this political arm “the base” continues to make the stupidest and most disgusting information stands. Fully obsessed with their moral increase and her hateful fantasy crap. This totally triggered me because the lateral thinker movement is in my perception for the division of society-and for such a unsolidarity that I had not been aware of in the form until then.

Salomon from “The Basic” I was reported because of a confrontation at the election level.

And did you win?

Salomon procedure set …

Ben then you at least gained the discussion about the accusation.

Solomon Today I think it’s rather funny that it still exists. Every now and then you come to some city and meet a demo on which people with “Corona!” scream. When we wrote the songs, however, it was already scary how many people combined it. Without it was ever a real movement, because in the end almost everyone brings their own topic with it – someone wanted the German Empire back, others were just right -wing extremists, the next were afraid of vaccinations. To date, this is cleaned all by this tendency to simplify the world declaration.

Ben the songs have also drawn wide circles for our uniqueness for our circumstances. Many of the clicks come from lateral thinkers, which can also be seen from the negative comments.

Salomon from this corner also stems that a concert should be prevented from a climate camp.

Ben is right, we should be classified as a “hate band” that should not be made.

Another remarkable BSK song is “Grandpa Punk” from the current album. He points this cultural struggle of the scene. So that there are punks, especially in older generations, that think of the gender as much as Markus Söder does, and to whom discussions about mindfulness and that types may be contradictory at concerts. A term of punk that has narrowed “the worst when the beer is all”. With you it says in the text: “But Grandpa Punk sits down with the weir / right memes, he presses on Share”. Do you take this conflict as very present within the punk scene?

Salomon It is definitely visible that some people have a certain conservatism that clearly defines for them what punk is and what is not. Of course we don’t feel like it.

On the other hand, we are increasingly going to this terrain, where we play in front of people who have been committed to fighting the philistine for decades and are very bourgeois in their music selection. With such encounters, you quickly notice that our music doesn’t ride – but sometimes. I remember that this year I was struck me a number of times more than knocked and I said: “Don’t think of yourself, but you delivered quite well, or what !! Really fresh wind !!!” Something also happens. Just like people comment on online: “Right, sometimes I am such an grandpa punk”, whereby the song in the back also becomes more constructive and resolves that it is about posture and that the Diss does not just face old men …

You should play the piece on the hot spot of the grandpa punk, on the Ruhrpott Rodeo, this largest local punk festival with headliners recently beyond the seventy.

Solomon Perhaps we will finally create the friction area on the Ruhrpott Rodeo that we could never call up in the AZS …
