“Brutal bad luck… a few meters more to the left or right and they were still alive”: years after fatal ride, mothers reconstruct how Miel and Louis died

A tour with ‘de wip’, their colloquialism for ‘car’, turned into a drama for three friends on November 8, 2024. In Beerst, near Diksmuide, in West Flanders, fate drove their car off the road and straight into a deep well. One of them was able to save himself, but all help came too late for Miel and Louis. “It was bad luck,” say their mothers. “Nothing has been the same since then. We are trying to survive. The basking spot, near the well, helps with that.”
