Bruno Labbadia’s move to Italy fell through

Hertha, Wolfsburg, Hamburg, Stuttgart. Those were Bruno Labbadia’s last four coaching positions as head coach. His next task should actually be in Italy.

Bruno Labbadia will probably not go to CFC Genoa in Italy after all. This is reported by the Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. Romano and “Sport1”, among others, had previously reported that the German coach and the penultimate Serie A had agreed. Now apparently something came up and Labbadia, who was about to take his first coaching job outside of Germany, remains without a club. The 55-year-old will still receive salary from his last job at Hertha BSC until the summer.

On Tuesday, Labbadia was due to arrive in Genoa to sign the contract and succeed Andriy Shevchenko, who was fired after just a little over two months in office. An official confirmation from the club about Labbadia was still pending – and will probably no longer follow.

Genoa must now look for another coach, the pressure is great. The club are second to bottom with 12 points after 22 games, having lost 6-0 to Fiorentina on Monday night. Only promoted Salernitana has fewer points (11). The gap to a non-relegation zone is six points. Therefore, points are urgently needed. The first opponent on Saturday is Udinese Calcio, a direct competitor in the relegation battle.
