Bruges court demands heavy fine for undeclared work

The defendant personally runs the risk of a fine of 200,000 euros. His two former companies are each facing a fine of one million euros. All together are said to have avoided more than 300,000 euros in social security contributions.

Wrong driving times

The fraud investigation at the transport company came as a result of a traffic check at one of their trucks in Zonnebeke in 2018. There, the police established that the driver was using a colleague’s tachograph disc, the time clock of a truck driver. Afterwards, the driving times of other trucks also did not match the documents of the RSZ.

inadmissible

According to the defense, the prosecution must be declared inadmissible. Lawyer Bram Casier points out that a fine was already issued during the road check of the truck and that the court cannot prosecute the defendants for a second time. Suspect Jan D. also claims that he did not deliberately cheat. His adviser asks the judge to pronounce a simple declaration of guilt. This means that the violation of the law is recognized, but the accused is not punished. The verdict is scheduled for April 8.
