It looks like Bruce Willis doesn’t want to retire completely from acting after all: he’s currently trying to live a double life of reality and virtuality in order to continue to be able to actively participate in the public. Willis uses deepfake technology to create a digital fake of himself that will appear in commercials and films in the future.

Just before his aphasia threatened to affect him, the actor reportedly sold his image rights to a Russian deepfake company. The goal: a digital twin. Deepfakes are deceptively real-looking, manipulated image, audio or video recordings. They are generated with the help of artificial intelligence. Willis’ estate is said to have official approval for any content produced.

Confusingly similar

The following examples show what the whole thing can look like. Here you will find, among other things, deepfakes of Tom Cruise alongside the real Paris Hilton and David Portnoy. The fact is: the doppelgangers look confusingly similar.

@deeptomcruiseI’ve got a sweet spot!♬ original sound – Tom

Earlier this year Bruce Willis announced that he was retiring from public life after being diagnosed with aphasia – a condition that makes it difficult for him to understand or even formulate language. This is due to certain brain regions that have been damaged by a stroke, head trauma, brain tumor, brain infection or a neurodegenerative disease. As Willis continues to rest, his fans can stay tuned: Looks like we’ll be seeing more of the Hollywood star again soon.
