Bruce Springsteen publicly remembers his late mother Adele. The musician shared an emotional video of the two on social media. In it they dance to the song “In The Mood” by Glenn Miller (1939) and hug each other.
“The Wish” in memory
The musician also wrote lines from his own song “The Wish” (1987). He wrote this one about his relationship with his mother. “I remember in the morning, mom, hearing your alarm clock ring. I’d lie in bed and listen to you getting ready for work, the sound of your makeup case on the sink. And the ladies at the office, all lipstick, perfume and rustling skirts, how proud and happy you always looked walking home from work,” Springsteen wrote in the body text as a reminder of the deceased. Further: “It ain’t no phone call on Sunday, flowers or a Mother’s Day card. There ain’t no house on the hill with a garden and a nice little yard. I’ve got my hot rod down on Bond Street, I’m older but you’ll know me in a glance. We’ll find us a little rock’n’roll bar and we’ll go out and dance.”
Bruce Springsteen on his mother’s health
In 2021, Bruce Springsteen announced on stage that his mother had been living with Alzheimer’s for ten years. At this point she still recognized her son. “She can’t speak. She can’t stand. She cannot feed herself. But when she sees me, there’s a smile. Still a smile. And then she still kisses me,” Springsteen said at the time. “She also makes a noise when she sees me. It’s just a sound, but I know it means, ‘I love you.'” In the musician’s early years, Adele Springsteen earned the family’s living. She also bought her son his first guitar and encouraged him to pursue his love of music. Later, Bruce Springsteen occasionally brought his mother on stage at concerts.

She was also known among band members and fans. E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt tweeted: “The matriarch of our family and a relentless source of inspiring positive energy. Unique. She will always be there for us. Dancing in the audience.”
