That the tension was high was already apparent during the performance itself. Springsteen played several politically charged songs. He released ‘American Skin (41 Shots)’, about excessive police violence, and ‘Streets of Minneapolis’, a tribute to Renée Good and Alex Pretti, who were killed by federal immigration agents.
This American tragedy can only be stopped by the American people: by you
“The gestapo methods of this president and this administration will not last here,” Springsteen said during the appearance. “This American tragedy can only be stopped by the American people: by you. No one is coming to save us. We will have to do it ourselves,” he continued.

The one-day “Power to the People” festival takes place on October 3 at Merriweather Post Pavilion, near Washington. According to the organizers, the event is about “freedom, justice, equality and rock ‘n’ roll”.

Part of the ticket proceeds goes to the organizations VoteRiders and HeadCount, two initiatives that try to remove barriers to voting. Dropkick Murphys, Jack Black, Serj Tankian, Killer Mike, Taylor Momsen and The Linda Lindas are also part of the line-up.
