Sidi Sané, the younger brother of Bayern Munich attacker Leroy, has received a new contract with Bundesliga promoted FC Schalke 04. The youngster should also graduate from the pros.

FC Schalke 04 have given Sidi Sané a new two-year contract until the end of June 2024. The 19-year-old is initially planned for the Revierklub’s U23 team, which plays in the Regionalliga West.

However, as the Royal Blues announced on Sunday, the attacker will complete “a significant part of the summer preparations” with head coach Frank Kramer’s team. Schalke will start training on June 22nd. Sané will start training under U23 coach Jakob Fimpel on June 14th.

“Sidi is a great boy who, despite a few injuries in the past, has developed very well,” said former Bundesliga professional Mathias Schober, director of Schalke’s youth department, explaining the decision to extend the contract. “We are happy that he was able to play many games in the U19s under Norbert Elgert last season. After a good season in the A-Youth Sidi gets the chance to train with the pros in preparation.” Next season, Sané now has the chance to “present himself to the first team”.

Sané made his debut with FC Schalke 04 U23s

Sidi Sané joined the Knappen in 2011 and has since worked through the club’s youth departments. The native of Essen made 18 appearances for the U19s last season, in which he scored six goals. Only in the semifinals did Schalke’s hopes of winning the title end in the games against eventual champions Borussia Dortmund.

On the last day of the Regionalliga West, Sané also made his debut for the U23 team. Under interim coach Mike Büskens, who prevented Schalke 04 from getting promoted in the final spurt of the 2nd Bundesliga season, the youngster was already able to train with the pros.
