A blue derby in the second round and a missed one. The day of the WTA 250 in Monastir, Tunisia, gives Italy a victory and a defeat, with a secure third round for one of ours. Lucia Bronzetti, world number 62 and sixth seed, advanced without problems with a 6-1 6-1 against the Slovakian Kukova, world number 507. Little to say about the match, with the Rimini girl immediately ahead 4-0 in the first set, with her opponent (competing with a protected ranking) incapable of any reaction, given the abysmal difference between the two in this match. Same story in the second half, in a match that lasted just under an hour. In the second round, Bronzetti will face, in an all-Romagna derby, Sara Errani: the former Italian top ten player, now n.108 WTA, who on Monday had beaten Slovenian Zidansek, n. 96 in the ranking. One to zero direct comparisons for Sara, who beat her compatriot in the WTA in Monterrey.

jasmine is there

Also ahead was Jasmine Paolini, n.30 in the world, who beat the French Alize Cornet 6-4 6-2: “Faceling Alizè is always difficult and I’m happy with my performance. I tried to stay focused on every point. Where can I get to “For now I’m only thinking about the next match” which will be on Thursday with the Croatian Marcinko, a 17 year old from Zagreb, n.140 in the ranking.

trevisan outside

Nothing to do however for Martina Trevisan, n.38 in the ranking and seeded n.3 in Monastir: the Tuscan, fresh from the semi-final in Hong Kong, tired and without energy, gave in 6-3 3-6 7-5, after over two and a quarter hours of fighting, to the Polish Katarzyna Kawa, n.217 Wta. No derby for the semi-finalist of Roland Garros 2022 in the second round against Lucrezia Stefanini, 25 years old from Carmignano, n.125 WTA, who also on Monday cameback to win another derby 5-7 6-3 6-1, the one with Camilla Rosatello, n.305 in the ranking, promoted from the qualifiers. There are no precedents between the Polish and the Italian.
