Liverpool attacker Alexander Isak injured himself so badly when he scored against Tottenham on Saturday that he had to be substituted. Now the ex-Dortmunder is threatened with a long absence.
Liverpool FC will probably have to do without royal transfer and goalscorer Alexander Isak for a longer period of time. The attacker had to leave the field injured after scoring a goal in the 2-1 win against Tottenham – now there are indications of a serious injury.
As the portal “The Athletic” reports, there is suspicion of a broken leg. The British media had previously spoken of a serious injury, but ruled out a torn cruciate ligament. An official announcement from the club has not yet been made.
Isak had given Liverpool the lead after an assist from Florian Wirtz. The 26-year-old was brought down by ex-Wolfsburg player Micky van de Ven while finishing.
The Swede, who was under contract with BVB between 2017 and 2019, twisted his left foot violently and lay on the ground in pain. The substitution followed immediately, and he was supported by supervisors when he left the pitch.
The injury is another setback for the Swedish international. Since his move from Newcastle United in the summer for 145 million euros, Isak has struggled with physical problems and a lack of training.
So far he has only played 781 minutes – the goal against Tottenham was his third goal for the club.
Coach Arne Slot said after the game: “If a player scores a goal, then gets injured and then doesn’t return to the pitch or even try, that’s usually not a good sign. But I can’t say anything more about it, it’s just a gut feeling. I can’t say anything medically about it. Let’s hope he’ll be back with us soon.”
