Britten, brother and Elton John commemorate Diana 25 years after tragic death | show

The accident of Diana and Dodi Fayed, 25 years ago today, was also commemorated at the Pont de l’Alma in Paris.

Diana’s good friend Elton John also made himself heard. At Diana’s funeral, the musician played Candle in the winda song originally about Marilyn Monroe and featured on Elton John’s 1973 album Goodbye yellow brick road was standing. The singer has said he will never play the song again unless one of Diana’s sons – Princes William and Harry – asks him to.

Candle in the wind is still the best-selling single ever in the Netherlands, with over 580,000 copies. It was number one for five weeks. Yet there were serious doubts in the British court in particular whether it would fit with Diana’s funeral service at Westminster Abbey, and whether this number would not be too sentimental. In the first scripts for the service, there is another number of Elton John, who was a close friend of Diana, namely his well-known your song.
