Britney Spears was convicted of drunk driving.

Britney Spears was arrested in March. Now the verdict was read to him for drunk driving. PDO

Singer Britney Spears, 44, has been convicted of drunk driving, reports NBC News and People. The singer pleaded guilty to drunken driving in California on March 4, 2026.

The case was heard in Ventura, California on Monday, May 4.

Spears was sentenced to a 12-month suspended sentence and one day in prison for the crime.

Spears must also pay $571 in fines. He must participate in a training program for those who have been convicted of drunk driving for three months. Spears also has to visit a psychologist once a week and a psychiatrist twice a month.

Authorities also searched Spears’ car.

Britney Spears’ lawyer Michael A. Goldstein commented on the verdict to People magazine.

– With today’s confession, Britney has taken responsibility for her actions. She has taken significant steps to make positive changes, which is evident in the Ventura County District Attorney’s decision to reduce the charges in this case, Spears’ attorney stated, according to People.

– Britney is grateful for the extensive support she has received, the lawyer continued.

Because Spears pleaded guilty to drunk driving and wanted to solve the matter in cooperation with the authorities, the sentence was reduced. According to People, if a person suspected of drunk driving pleads guilty, they can be placed on probation for 12 months, and thus an official prison sentence is not required. In this case, the person must also pay the fines and other fees imposed by the state and participate in follow-up treatments.

Spears’ reduced sentence was influenced by the fact that she has no previous history of drunk driving and her blood alcohol content was low. The arrest was also not accompanied by an accident or injuries to bystanders, so the court reduced its sentence.
