Britney Spears speaks up – for the first time since she was arrested in California earlier this month for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

On March 27, the pop star returned to Instagram with a video of herself dancing, her trademark dance of the past few years. In the clip, her 19-year-old son Jayden Federline can be seen dancing with her as she films them both in a mirror. “Thank you guys for your support. Spending time with family and friends is such a blessing. Stay kind!”

The post echoes what a spokesperson for Spears told Rolling Stone shortly after her arrest and subsequent release. “Her sons will spend time with her,” the rep said at the time. “Your loved ones will work together to develop a long-overdue plan that will put them on the right path and ensure their well-being,” he added. Regarding the arrest itself, it said: “This was an unfortunate incident that has absolutely no excuse… Britney will take the right steps and follow the law. Hopefully this can be the first step towards a long-needed change in Britney’s life. We hope she gets the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”

Britney Spears: arrested on the highway

On March 4, Spears was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol around 9:30 p.m. A spokesperson told Rolling Stone that officers suspected Spears was driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. “At approximately 8:48 p.m., the Ventura Communications Center received a report of a black BMW 430i traveling at a high rate of speed and in a weaving pattern on southbound US-101,” the spokesman said at the time. “CHP officers located the BMW near Westlake Boulevard and initiated a traffic stop. … The sole occupant, Ms. Spears, exhibited signs of impairment. She underwent a series of field sobriety tests. Ms. Spears was subsequently arrested for violation of California Vehicle Code Section 23152(g) – Driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol – and booked into the Ventura County Main Jail.”

Spears was admitted at 3 a.m. on March 4 and released a few hours later around 6 a.m. The singer’s arrest was classified as a “cite and release” – summons without pre-trial detention. She is due to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on May 4.
