Britney Spears reveals some details about her life and career in her memoir The Woman In Me. In addition to her 13-year guardianship and her relationship with Justin Timberlake, she also discusses her relationship with her mother in some passages. She threw away some items from Spears’ youth that were important to the pop star. Now Lynne Spears is defending herself against the claims.
In 2019, Spears said she placed both her diaries and her collected Madame Alexander dolls with her mother when she admitted the singer to a psychiatric facility. When she visited her parents after her stay, her “valuable possessions” had disappeared. “When I saw the empty shelves, I felt an overwhelming sadness,” the artist writes in her memoirs. Although she never wanted to publish the writings, they were still important to her. “And my family had thrown them in the trash, just like they had thrown me away,” the singer continues.

Lynne Spears is now defending herself with an Instagram post that shows photos of the items in question. “I’m not sure who told you that I got rid of your dolls and diaries, but I would never do that!” writes the 68-year-old under the post. “That would be cruel, because I know how much they mean to you. They are also special to me because we have collected them over the years.” She also addressed her daughter directly: “Of course I still have your things and I would be happy to send them to you if you would like. Please let me know and remember how much I love you!” said the mother.
Despite current tensions, the mother-daughter duo appeared to have made progress toward reconciliation in May 2023. Britney Spears wrote in an Instagram post: “My sweet mom showed up on my doorstep yesterday after 3 years… it’s been so long… there are always things in the family that need to be sorted out… but time heals all wounds! !!,” said the artist under the post, which consists of a photo of her at a young age. “After being able to share what I had been holding back for an extremely long time, I feel so blessed that we were able to try to make things RIGHT!!! I love you so much!!! Psss… I am so blessed that after 14 years we can have coffee together!!! Let’s go shopping after this!!!,” Spears continues.
Even if there seems to be a lot left unsaid within the Spears family at the moment, Britney Spears had a very happy childhood, she writes. In her memoirs, the musician describes the time after she left the “Mickey Mouse Club” in 1994 and spent the rest of her youth in her hometown of Kentwood. “There was something so wonderfully normal about that period of my life: I went to the prom, drove around our small town and went to the movies,” reflects Spears. “But the truth was that I missed the performances.”
