Unlike the European Union countries around Germany, Great Britain and Northern Ireland have negotiated a zero percent tariff rate for pharmaceutical experts in the USA.
The PA news agency reported this in the evening with reference to the government. In return, the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS) should be able to spend more money on US drugs.
Pharmaceutical products are among the British’s most important export goods to the USA. According to the BBC, the United States is the largest market for British pharmaceutical companies GSK and AstraZeneca. Both invest billions of dollars in the USA.
First agreement in the customs dispute in the spring
The US deal with the UK is supposed to be valid for three years. A 15 percent tariff applies to EU pharmaceutical imports into the USA. US President Donald Trump threatened to impose even higher tariffs of up to 100 percent in September, but he backed away from this.
In the spring, Great Britain and the United States agreed on a basic tariff deal. Most British products are charged 10 percent when imported into the US. In addition, 10 percent is also charged for the first 100,000 vehicles from the Kingdom per year – each additional vehicle is subject to customs duty at a rate of 25 percent.
