Following the expansion of the golf course of Golf and Country Club De Palingbeek, an archaeological project was started in 2022. After a desk study and a test trench investigation, it was time for the archaeological excavation on part of the plan area of approximately 22.8 hectares.
In the first excavation area, the outline of a trench system immediately became clear. This system belongs to the British front line that was here from May 1915 to June 1917. The trenches are well preserved. The structure with wooden A-frames, wooden gangways and iron corrugated sheets is currently being further mapped and the finds in the trenches tell the story of the soldiers at this specific location at the front.
