The Río Breogán made official this Thursday the hiring of the Croatian coach Vejko Mrsic, who returns to Spain, where he played for Unicaja Málaga (between 1999 and 2002) and Girona (2002/03) and managed Bilbao Basket in the 2017/18 campaignwhich ended with the relegation of the Basque team in a difficult year.

The Lugo team highlighted the experience of its new tenant on the bench, who was in charge of the Croatian team, from which he has parted ways to sign for Breogán.

The new Breoganist coach will meet again with the Bosnian Dzanan Musa, a player who, under the guidance of the new sky-blue coach, debuted in the Euroleague at just 16 years old at Cedevita.

His coaching career began with KK Split in 2006 and, after passing through the Italian league (Varese), he directed KK Cibona and later enjoyed success with KK Cedevita, with whom he won the Croatian league in the 2015/16 seasons. and 2016/17.

In his country he also won the Croatian league and cup in the 2020/21 campaign with KK Zadar.

The Lugo club reported that it is working for Mrsic to join training this week.

Breogán, who caresses the Copa del Rey, will visit Monbus Obradoiro on Sunday in the Galician derby of the Endesa League.

The club’s intention is for Mrsic to debut in the game with the Santiago team after two games with Javi Muñoz as the main coach, on an interim basis, after the departure of Paco Olmos, who terminated his contract to join Hereda San Pablo Burgos.
