Ireland international Nathan Collins has changed clubs for the third time in his professional career and, as with every previous transfer, has cost tens of millions. Brentford FC have signed the 22-year-old central defender for what is reported to be a club record fee of almost 27 million euros. The contract in London is initially valid for the previous Wolverhampton player until 2029 and can then be extended by an additional two years.

Collins made the leap from youth to professional football at Stoke City in 2019 and left the Potters two years later for Burnley FC for €12m. From there it went to Wolverhampton a year later for over 24 million euros. The move to the “Bees” will increase Collins’ total transfer earnings to more than €65m, putting him second in the ranking of all Irish footballers. Former striker icon Robbie Keane is at the top there with a good 103 million euros. No other Irish player has ever achieved a higher sum from a single transfer.

Coach Thomas Frank described Collins as a calm and composed defender, emphasizing his header power, ball skills and personality. “I see leadership potential in Nathan,” said the Danish coach of the new signing. “He’s a perfect Brentford player – hungry and ambitious with a desire to learn.”
