Werder Bremen is apparently about to sign the ex-striker
May 27, 2026 – 2:40 a.mReading time: 1 min.

West Ham wants to get rid of him, Milan is history – and Niclas Füllkrug has a very specific wish for his future that makes Werder Bremen sit up and take notice.
Niclas Füllkrug wants to use the summer to clarify his future – and Werder Bremen has good cards, as “Bild” reports. The 33-year-old is leaving AC Milan after the end of the loan, and a return to West Ham is almost impossible despite the current contract until 2028.
Because after the Londoners’ relegation from the Premier League, Füllkrug’s net salary of an estimated 4.5 million euros can no longer be met, as it is said. West Ham is therefore likely to let him go for a mini-transfer or for free – apparently combined with a severance payment.
Füllkrug wants to return to his home region
Werder had already wanted to sign Füllkrug in the winter, but failed due to finances. This hurdle now no longer applies. Füllkrug comes from the Hanover region and wants to stay in his home country long-term, Bremen is conveniently located. Competition comes from Wolfsburg, but VfL will play in the 2nd Bundesliga next season. Spanish and Italian clubs as well as newly promoted Venezia FC are also said to be interested.
Recently, the national team also played a role: national coach Nagelsmann was in regular contact with Füllkrug, but still did not nominate him for the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico; the meager goal record in the last two club years was the deciding factor.
