Breeding seagull builds nest between taxi’s windshield wipers

An Alkmaar gull has found a very special breeding place: on the hood of a taxi between the windscreen wipers, the gull decided to build a nest to incubate her egg.

Employees and the local animal ambulance have already tried to remove the nest at the location of the Munckhof taxi company on an Alkmaar industrial estate. In vain, for the seagulls keep returning.

Now that the gull couple has laid an egg, the nest may no longer be removed, because gulls are protected in the Netherlands† “There are a huge number of them here, and fortunately, because the seagull population in the Netherlands is apparently not doing so well,” responds a local entrepreneur.

seagull plague

Alkmaar has been struggling with a seagull plague for some time and has designated special roofs, so-called tolerated roofs, where seagulls can nest in peace. Although there is a tolerance roof near the nest, these two stubborn gulls preferred to choose their own place.
